watchOS 27.3 Beta Adds Live Rewind and Siri Recap to Apple Watch

Apple's first watchOS 27.3 beta brings Audio Intelligence to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, with a 15-second transcript tool and automatic conversation summaries.

Apple has released the first beta of watchOS 27.3, and with it the first working versions of Live Rewind and Siri Recap, two Audio Intelligence features previewed earlier this year for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Both rely on the S11 chip.

Live Rewind shows a transcript of the last 15 seconds of a conversation. If you miss what a waiter says about the daily specials, a double press of the Digital Crown displays the words on screen, so there is no need to ask anyone to repeat themselves. Siri Recap works in the background instead: the watch listens through the day and produces a high-level summary with a title and key points. Summaries are deleted after seven days unless saved, and no full transcript is kept.

Opt-in controls and privacy

All Audio Intelligence features are opt-in. Siri Recap can be scheduled by time, location or both, for example only at work or never at night, and can be toggled from Control Center. Summaries can be viewed and deleted in the Siri app. Live Rewind only activates when the Digital Crown is pressed, transcription stops after the 15-second snippet, and text is not saved unless you ask Siri about it or store it in the Siri app.

Apple says no audio recordings are created or stored, and that apps, the operating system and Apple cannot access audio. Raw audio goes into the Secure Exclave on the S11, which Apple describes as a hardware-isolated compartment for sensor data. Speakers are not identified or labeled, and Siri Recaps filter potentially harmful content and sensitive information.

Live Rewind plays an audible chime, even in silent mode, along with a full-display animation and a microphone indicator for people nearby. Live Rewind and Sound Recognition run on-device unless a snippet is sent to Siri or saved, while Siri Recap summaries are generated through Private Cloud Compute.

Requirements and timing

Besides an Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4, the features need an iPhone 16 or later with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. They are English-only at first and unavailable to users under 13, with parental approval required for Child Accounts under 18. watchOS 27.3 is expected in December alongside iOS 27.3.
