Apple Opens Siri AI to Third-Party Apps With iOS 27.3

Apple is letting developers integrate Siri AI into all apps with iOS 27.3, adding personal context, on-screen awareness and new "app skills" for multi-step actions.

Apple is opening Siri AI to third-party apps. With the iOS 27.3 update, which began rolling out Tuesday as a Developer Preview, the company says developers can now integrate Siri AI's new features in "all apps." That lets the voice assistant use a person's personal context, understand natural language prompts and rely on on-screen awareness to complete requests.

Apple previously made only a smaller set of features available to outside developers, so this marks a significant widening of what Siri AI can reach.

App skills and fewer spoken app names

The update also introduces "app skills," a feature that third-party developers can build to combine several tasks into one action. According to Apple's developer documentation, users will not need to say an app's name when the app is in the foreground, during a Live Activity, or in a conversation with Siri AI about that app.

Apple gives a ride-share example. A person could request a ride, follow the Live Activity while waiting for the car, then say "Hey Siri, change my ride pickup to a new address" to move the pickup location.

Apple's own apps get the same upgrade

Apple is also bringing Siri AI's expanded capabilities to its own software, including Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. Apple says users can do things like find a coffee shop they visited last week or archive files that have not been opened in over a year. Users can also ask Siri AI what it can do in each app.

For users, the change could make the assistant far more useful in the apps they already rely on every day, without switching between interfaces. For developers, app skills offer a way to expose multi-step tasks directly to Siri AI. Because the release is currently a Developer Preview, broader availability to the general public will follow once developers have had time to build and test their integrations.
