Plus Brings Forward 3G Shutdown in Poland to November 2026

Plus will start switching off 3G in November 2026, a month earlier than planned, in Bydgoszcz, Białystok and the Białobrzegi county. The rest of Poland follows from January 2027.

Polish operator Plus has revised its 3G phase-out schedule and will begin switching off the network in November 2026, a month earlier than it announced in May. The first stage covers only three areas: the municipality of Bydgoszcz, the municipality of Białystok and the Białobrzegi county.

In May, the operator said the whole process would start in December 2026. It has now opted for an earlier start on a smaller footprint, which is meant to help it prepare better for the later stages of the upgrade.

From January 2027, 3G is to be wound down gradually across the rest of the country. Plus has not given specific shutdown dates and warns that the timetable may still change.

Why Plus is doing it

The goal is to free up resources used by the older technology and redirect them to 4G/LTE and 5G. Most users should not notice the change. Owners of older phones, modems and routers that lack newer standards may be affected.

After the shutdown, customers will need a phone that supports 4G/LTE or 5G and a compatible SIM card. Plus offers a quick check: send a free text message reading SPRAWDZAM to 80909, and the reply will say whether the device and card support LTE. According to the operator, SIM cards made after 2013 are LTE-compatible.

A SIM card without LTE can be replaced free of charge in a Plus or Polsat Box store, and the phone number and account balance stay the same. A phone without 4G support will have to be replaced for anyone who wants to keep using mobile internet.

What still works

The 2G network will remain active, allowing calls and text messages, but internet access will be heavily limited. Plus also advises checking that VoLTE is enabled in the phone settings, which lets calls run over LTE without falling back to older technology.
