OpenAI to Acquire Pierre Computer Company to Expand Codex
OpenAI will buy developer-tools maker Pierre Computer Company to bring Git-based code storage and review features into its AI coding tool Codex. Terms were not disclosed.

OpenAI has announced it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, a maker of developer tools, in a deal aimed at expanding the code storage and review capabilities of its AI coding tool Codex. Financial terms were not disclosed, and completion depends on regulatory approval.
Code Storage at the center
The deal centers on Pierre's Code Storage service, which lets applications store their source code using Git and track the history of changes made to it. OpenAI plans to bring these capabilities into Codex. Existing customers will be able to keep using Code Storage after the deal closes while integration work continues.
Pierre also builds two open-source libraries that the Codex app already uses. Trees lets developers move through project files, while Diffs shows which lines of code have changed. The editing mode in Diffs allows a problem spotted during review to be fixed on the same screen. OpenAI said Pierre's projects will remain open source and that it will continue contributing to them.
A broader plan for developers and agents
OpenAI describes the acquisition as part of a wider effort to let developers and coding agents work on the same project in parallel. Earlier this week, the company also introduced Pando, a source-control infrastructure it built for its own engineers and agents.
With the Pierre team, OpenAI aims to bring the entire workflow into Codex, from an agent creating a new Git branch for a code change through to the code going live. For developers, that could mean fewer handoffs between separate tools when reviewing and shipping work produced by AI agents.
