Madica secures $6 million from Flourish Ventures for African startups

Africa-focused pre-seed programme Madica has received a further $6 million from Flourish Ventures to extend its pilot by three years and back up to 30 more startups.

Madica, a pre-seed investment programme focused on Africa, has secured an additional $6 million commitment from Flourish Ventures. The funding extends its investment pilot by three years and targets 25 to 30 more early-stage startups across the continent.

Launched in 2022 and led by Emmanuel Adegboye, Madica is sector-agnostic and affiliated with Flourish Ventures. It provides early-stage funding along with hands-on company-building support to African founders who are underserved by traditional venture capital networks.

Track record so far

To date, Madica has invested in 18 startups across 10 African countries and 12 sectors, including AI. The breadth of that portfolio reflects the programme's decision not to limit itself to a single industry or market.

Why it matters

Pre-seed capital remains hard to come by for many founders outside established startup hubs and investor networks. By combining small early cheques with operational support, Madica aims to help founders reach the stage where they can attract larger rounds.

The three-year extension gives the programme more time to test its model and broaden its portfolio. With room for up to 30 additional companies, it could more than double the number of startups it has backed since 2022.
