MYOFREE Tablet Makes Screen Look 5 Meters Away to Ease Eye Strain

At CEATEC 2026, the MYOFREE tablet and its special glasses made the screen appear far behind the display, aiming to reduce the eye fatigue of close-up viewing.

A tablet that deliberately makes its screen look farther away was among the curiosities at CEATEC 2026, held at Makuhari Messe from October 13 to 16. The device, called MYOFREE, is designed to let users watch content while easing the load on their eyes.

How it works

Without the accompanying glasses, the image on MYOFREE looks doubled and blurry. That is because the tablet displays separately processed images for the left and right eyes. Through the special glasses, each eye sees only its own image, and the picture appears to sit far behind the physical screen.

The approach relies on parallel viewing, the way eyes look when focused on something in the distance. According to the explanation at the show, when content is viewed up close, the lines of sight of both eyes cross near the face, which is one factor behind fatigue. The same effect explains why staring at a smartphone at short range tires the eyes.

With the MYOFREE function switched on, the viewing position becomes equivalent to about 5 meters away. The image appears smaller, though not nearly as tiny as something genuinely 5 meters off. The effect cannot be shown in photographs; it has to be experienced through the glasses.

First impressions

The hands-on impression was that the depth feels odd at first, like a reverse of the 3D televisions that were once popular. Even so, it felt somewhat easier on the eyes than staring at a screen held close to the face. Longer sessions might make the benefit more noticeable.

A tablet is usually viewed from the front, so the head-on viewing angle is unlikely to be a problem.

Why it matters

People now get entertainment and information from digital devices almost constantly, and the strain adds up. Giving up those devices is hardly realistic, so MYOFREE proposes living with them at a more comfortable apparent distance. No price or release date was mentioned in the material available.
