App Store lets developers offer discounts to users who try to cancel
Apple has launched a feature that lets developers show a message or special offer, such as a discount, to subscribers before they finish canceling in the App Store.

Apple has introduced a new App Store feature aimed at users who want to cancel a subscription. Before the cancellation is completed, developers can now show a message reminding subscribers of the benefits of their plan, or a special offer such as a discount.
The feature covers auto-renewing subscriptions and is managed through App Store Connect. Developers choose the text, image or offer that appears on the cancellation screen. They can also decide which subscribers see the message and how long to wait before the same user sees it again.
Retention Messaging API
For developers who want to personalize messages based on subscription data, Apple also offers the Retention Messaging API. Access is available on request. With it, developers can decide which message each individual subscriber sees.
The API also allows offers beyond discounts. An app could suggest that a user canceling a monthly plan switch to an annual plan, or offer a free period on the current subscription. The user can accept the offer or carry on with the cancellation.
Measuring results
Apple first presented the feature at WWDC26. It also lets developers measure how the offers on the cancellation screen perform. Reports show how many users who saw the message accepted the offer, changed plans or went ahead and canceled.
For subscription apps, the cancellation screen becomes a place to keep customers rather than just a final step. For users, it means they may see discounts or alternative plans before leaving, though they can still complete the cancellation.
