The governing board of CDTI Innovación, the public business entity attached to Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, approved 19 new R&D&I projects in October. Together they carry a budget of €17.21 million, of which CDTI Innovación will contribute €12.75 million.

The funding includes a non-refundable tranche of €2.47 million. All 19 operations fall under the loan category.

Who is involved

Nineteen companies take part in the projects. Ten of them receive CDTI Innovación financing for the first time, and 15 are SMEs. According to the data, these companies have seven people dedicated to the proposed objectives.

The agency says 13 of the 19 approved operations are co-financed through Spain's Multiregional Operational Programme (POPE) 2021-2027.

What the EU co-financing changes

The 2021-2027 programme allows CDTI Innovación to offer a non-refundable tranche of up to 30% to projects that receive co-financing from it, regardless of the size of the beneficiary. That is the mechanism behind the non-refundable portion included in this round.

The breakdown of aid by autonomous community, along with the list of approved projects, is published in an annex to the board's October resolution.
