XREAL began taking general preorders in Japan on November 2 for the XREAL AURA, its Android XR-powered XR glasses. The 12GB/256GB model costs 229,800 yen and the 16GB/512GB model 269,800 yen. Shipments start in late November.

AURA was developed with Google and Qualcomm and uses an optical see-through design. The glasses connect by cable to a separate compute pack, which keeps the frame at 95g or less. The pack weighs about 265g and houses the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip and the battery.

Specs and features

The display uses Sony Micro-OLED panels with a field of view of up to 70 degrees, 1,920×1,200 pixels per eye and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Two sizes are offered, M and L, depending on interpupillary distance.

Built on Android XR, the glasses give access to Google Play apps and more than 150 XR-specific apps. Users can pin several windows in real space with 6DoF tracking and control them through hand tracking, voice or the pack's touchpad. Gemini can recognize what the wearer sees and highlight specific spots in view. Accessories include a foldable wireless keyboard (12,980 yen), a game controller (18,990 yen) and a prescription lens frame.

XREAL 1 Pro+ also launches

XREAL also opened preorders for the 1 Pro+, successor to the One Pro AR glasses. It goes on sale on November 10 at 84,980 yen, or 98,960 yen bundled with XREAL Eye. Maximum brightness rises from 700 to 1,200 nits, an AI HDR mode curbs blown highlights and crushed blacks, and real-time 2D-to-3D conversion improves from 30fps to 60fps. Preorders through November 9 price the bundle at 91,960 yen.

Founder and CEO Chi Xu called AURA the company's most ambitious and capable device to date. Google's Lucy Jin described it as the first wired Android XR glasses.

Free hands-on events, by online lottery, start November 14 in Fukuoka, followed by Tokyo on December 1 and 2 and Osaka on December 19.
