Saudi Aramco has completed the acquisition of a 49% stake in HUMAIN, the Saudi artificial intelligence company, through a wholly owned subsidiary. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) remains the majority owner with 51%.

Under the deal, Aramco will contribute roughly SAR 9.9 billion ($2.6 billion) in cash during 2026, along with AI, computing and digital assets. Both shareholders will also bring technology capabilities and talent to HUMAIN.

What HUMAIN builds

PIF launched HUMAIN in May 2025 to build full-stack AI capabilities across four areas: next-generation data centres, high-performance infrastructure and cloud platforms, advanced AI models, and industry-specific AI solutions. Its models include ALLaM, which the company describes as one of the world's most powerful multimodal Arabic large language models.

The transaction supports HUMAIN's plan to deploy 3 gigawatts of AI data centre capacity by 2030 to meet regional and global demand for compute. The company says it aims to become one of the leading exporters of AI globally.

Why it matters

For Aramco, HUMAIN's infrastructure is meant to turn advanced AI into industrial applications across its operations. The company expects the partnership to improve how it monetises existing AI and digital assets while complementing its core energy business. Aramco CEO Amin H. Nasser said the company has achieved $11.3 billion in Technology Realized Value since 2023, with a significant portion coming from AI solutions.

PIF says the move fits its 2026-2030 strategy, which focuses on deeper integration across economic ecosystems, more private sector participation and growing national companies into global leaders. Yazeed A. Al-Humied of PIF said combining the two investors' AI portfolios under HUMAIN would fuel talent growth, technological advancement and intellectual property creation.

With Aramco's cash arriving during 2026, HUMAIN now has a second major backer as it works toward its 2030 capacity target.
