Windows 11 Cloud Rebuild Reinstalls the OS Even if PC Won't Boot
Update KB5127936 adds Cloud Rebuild to Windows 11, letting users reinstall the system and its drivers from the cloud, even on a PC that no longer starts.

Microsoft has added a new recovery tool to Windows 11. Starting with update KB5127936, the operating system can be fully reinstalled from the cloud, drivers included, even when the computer is unable to boot.
The feature is called Cloud Rebuild. It removes the need for a USB drive or a disk image: the only requirement is an internet connection, either wired or over Wi-Fi.
Independent of the installed system
Besides downloading and reinstalling Windows 11 and its drivers automatically, Cloud Rebuild does not depend on the integrity of the operating system already on the machine. That matters when a failure has left the installation damaged. The tool is not limited to broken PCs, though: a computer that still starts can use it too.
Microsoft designed it for both home users and organizations that rely on Windows. Rebuilding a machine with nothing but a network connection saves time and hassle, since conventional recovery drives are no longer needed.
How to use it
If the PC still boots, Cloud Rebuild is available under Settings > System > Recovery. If it does not, it can be launched from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). The best-known way to get there is to force the PC to shut down three times while the Windows logo is on screen; on the next attempt, the recovery environment opens directly.
Once in WinRE, connect the computer by network cable or Wi-Fi and select Cloud Rebuild. The process erases all data stored on the drive, so a backup is essential. On systems with several disks, users can choose which ones to format.
If KB5127936 has not yet appeared on your PC, it may take a few days to reach every user. You can check availability in Windows Update.
