Windows 11 26H2 now available to most compatible PCs, Windows 10 included
Microsoft has opened Windows 11 26H2 to most compatible PCs, including Windows 10 machines enrolled in Extended Security Updates, as a free upgrade.

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 26H2 is now available to most compatible computers, including some that still run Windows 10. The upgrade is free for users whose hardware meets the requirements and whose installed system supports the update path.
According to Microsoft's updated guidance, 26H2 can be installed from earlier versions of Windows 11, including 24H2 and 25H2. Windows 10 PCs on the current version that are enrolled in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme can also make the jump. The company had previously allowed upgrades from older Windows 10 builds, but that option no longer applies.
A small release focused on stability
Windows 11 26H2, also known as the Windows 11 2026 Update, was released on 29 September 2026 for x86-64 and Arm PCs. Microsoft describes it as a relatively small update with minimal changes, aimed mainly at improving stability and compatibility. In practice, 26H2 switches on some features that were already present in earlier builds but remained disabled.
Why it matters for Windows 10 users
Standard support for Windows 10 ended in 2025, so the move remains relevant. Home edition users enrolled in ESU will keep receiving free security updates until October 2027, and Microsoft still allows an official move to Windows 11 at no extra cost for the operating system.
To check whether the update is offered, open Settings, go to Windows Update and select Check for updates. If Windows 11 26H2 appears for your PC, choose Download and install. The rollout is gradual, so not every eligible device will see it immediately.
