OpenAI Gives French Students €50 in ChatGPT Credits via UNiDAYS
After the US and Canada, OpenAI is extending its student offer to France: verified students can claim €50 in ChatGPT credits through UNiDAYS.

OpenAI has brought its student offer to France. Students can now claim €50 in ChatGPT credits, equivalent to 1,250 credits, through UNiDAYS, the discount platform reserved for students. The offer follows earlier launches in the United States and Canada.
To get the credits, students must verify their status with a university email address. No subscription is required.
What the credits actually cover
Despite the wording, the €50 is not a balance to spend freely in the app. The credits are meant for OpenAI's "agentic" features, which carry out entire tasks on the user's behalf, and they only kick in once the limits of a plan have been reached.
The first use is Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, which can write, fix or document code. Every ChatGPT plan caps Codex usage, and credits take over when that ceiling is hit. They also apply to ChatGPT Work, which draws on the same pool as Codex for long-running tasks, and to ChatGPT for Excel, the integration of the assistant into Microsoft's spreadsheet. Standard conversations are not covered, but they are unlimited on every plan, including the free one.
Who benefits most
The offer is clearly aimed at students who code. Those already using Claude Code can use the credits to test Codex against their current setup without paying for anything.
The gesture is still modest. In the United States, OpenAI offers $100 in credits valid for one year, and Google is more generous in France, with a year of Google AI Plus. Google has also courted students with 12 months of Gemini Pro and 400 GB of storage, a sign that AI companies are competing hard for this audience.
