Meta to End OS Updates for Quest 2 and Quest Pro by March 2027
Meta will stop shipping operating system updates for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro by March 2027, with v213 as the final release. Security fixes continue through 2027.

Meta plans to end operating system updates for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets by March 2027. The company says v213 will be the last OS version for both devices, which it already stopped producing in 2024.
The headsets will not be cut off entirely. Meta says it will keep delivering security updates and fixes for critical software bugs through the end of 2027. Developers can also keep submitting apps that support the Quest 2 and Quest Pro until December 2027, even though the system software will no longer receive new versions after v213.
Focus shifts to Quest 3 and Quest 3S
Meta described the Quest 3 and Quest 3S as the new foundation for its VR gaming users, a clear signal that its attention is moving to the newer hardware. According to the company, those two headsets offer higher application performance and built-in mixed reality technology.
The announcement comes ahead of Meta's next VR headsets, which are expected to launch in spring 2027. The company says apps built for the Quest 3 and Quest 3S will remain viable on those new devices, which will run the same operating system and software development kits (SDKs).
What it means for owners
Meta acknowledged that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro helped lay the groundwork for its VR platform and noted that millions of people still use them. The Quest 2 launched in 2020 and the Quest Pro followed in 2022.
For current owners, the practical effect is that no new system features will arrive after v213, while the devices stay protected and stable through 2027. Developers, meanwhile, have a clear window to keep supporting older headsets before shifting fully to the newer lineup.
