Rockstar Games has confirmed that preloading for GTA 6 will open on Tuesday, November 10, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That gives players a little over a week to install the full game before it launches on Thursday, November 19.

Preloading means the complete game can be downloaded and installed ahead of release, but it stays locked until launch day. It cuts waiting time and eases the pressure on digital stores when millions of players try to get in at once. On release day, players only need a small patch that removes the file encryption and unlocks access.

Different start times by platform

The start time is not the same on both consoles. On PS5, the download becomes available at midnight in each user's own time zone, so players in Oceania and Asia can start first and the rest of the world follows gradually.

Xbox Series X|S uses a single global time instead. Preloading unlocks at 00:00 GMT, which is 21:00 on November 9 in Argentina and 18:00 on November 9 in Mexico.

Physical copies and storage

These dates apply to digital downloads from the PlayStation and Xbox stores. According to Rockstar, "physical" editions, which contain a download code in the box rather than a disc, should reach retail stores from November 12.

The studio also confirmed the size of the preload file: 212 GB. Players should free up console storage in advance to make sure the game fits before launch day. With an installation this large, clearing space early is the simplest way to avoid delays once the preload opens.
