GTA 6 Pre-Load Moves Up to November 10, Needs 212 GB

Rockstar Games has moved the GTA 6 digital pre-load forward to November 10, giving players nine days to download the game, which needs up to 212 GB of free space.

Rockstar Games has brought forward the digital pre-load of GTA 6 by two days. Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can now start installing the game on Tuesday, November 10, instead of Thursday, November 12 as previously planned.

On PlayStation 5, the pre-load unlocks at midnight local time. Xbox Series X|S owners have to wait until 00:00 GMT, which is 1:00 a.m. in Poland on the same day. The game itself launches on November 19 at 00:00 local time, so players in Poland will be able to start earlier than, for example, those in the United States.

212 GB of free space

According to Rockstar, the pre-load package will require up to 212 GB of free storage. That matches unofficial reports that the installation files would weigh around 210 GB on PlayStation 5.

The figure matters most for owners of the 512 GB Xbox Series S and the 825 GB PlayStation 5, who have considerably less room for games once system files and existing titles are accounted for. Many of them will need to clear space before November 10.

More time for slower connections

The earlier date moves the download window from seven days to nine, a change that mainly helps people with slower internet. On a 30 Mb/s connection (3.75 MB/s), the download takes almost 16 hours, or 942 minutes. Spread over nine days, that is roughly 105 minutes of downloading per day.

Faster connections need far less time. A 300 Mb/s fibre line downloads the game in a little over 1.5 hours, and a 1 Gb/s connection in under 30 minutes. With the longer window, even households without fast broadband will not have to leave a console running for many hours in a row.

Players who want to be ready on launch day should check their free storage now and plan the download for the week beginning November 10.
