Fritz Smart Energy 201: New Smart Plug Launches at 49 Euros
Berlin-based Fritz has launched the Smart Energy 201, a DECT smart plug with Matter support that measures power use and handles loads up to 3,680 watts.

Berlin-based manufacturer Fritz has launched a new smart plug, the Smart Energy 201. Besides switching connected devices on and off, it lets users measure, record and analyze their energy consumption. The recommended retail price is 49 euros.
How the plug works
According to the company's press release, the plug connects to the home network via DECT and can be set up with the Fritz app or an existing Fritzbox. It can be controlled from a smartphone, tablet or PC, including remotely. Because it supports the Matter smart home standard, it also works with voice assistants such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
Users can switch the plug manually using the built-in button or through smart home controls. It also offers several automatic modes, from one-time or daily switching to cycles tied to sunrise and sunset and random switching times. The random mode can help deter burglars. The compact design is meant to let the plug fit almost any socket without blocking neighboring outlets, although the manufacturer's photo suggests that larger Schuko plugs could make things tight.
Who it is for
Fritz says the plug helps users spot energy-saving potential across their home network. Upgraded hardware now allows it to control devices drawing up to 3,680 watts reliably. The plug itself uses less than 0.2 watts.
At 49 euros, it is aimed at people who want to start small and build their own smart home setup. It makes the most sense for households that already own a Fritzbox.
Fritz products tend to cost more than those of rival brands. The company counters with particularly long software support, stronger data protection and practical extras. One example is Fritz WLAN Mesh: combining several Fritz devices creates a single network with one signal, covering homes with thick walls or remote rooms such as a basement office. Smartphones and laptops switch between access points without losing the connection.
