Japanese audio brand km5 has unveiled two new products built around its Cp1 Bluetooth CD player: the Sp1 slim wireless speaker and the Mp1 two-channel wireless mixer. The company showed them at an event on 21 October at the STEREO music bar in Tokyo's Shibuya district. Pre-orders open on 16 November through the km5 official store, with shipping planned from February 2027. Prices have not been announced.

Sp1: a speaker that works without a phone

The Sp1 matches the Cp1's footprint at 160 x 140 x 26 mm and uses a minimalist square design with controls on the side. Inside are two 45 mm full-range drivers, two passive radiators and a digital power amplifier IC. One unit plays in mono; two can be paired for stereo.

Beyond Bluetooth, it has an FM radio, can record radio programmes, and plays MP3, WAV and AAC files from a microSD card. Battery life is about 12 hours. A strap is included, and an optional accessory allows wall mounting, as with the Cp1. Founder Tatsushi Funayama said he wanted a speaker that works without a smartphone, and noted that few Bluetooth speakers include a radio.

Mp1: DJ functions without cables

The Mp1 has two Bluetooth inputs and one output, so it can mix sources such as a Cp1 or a smartphone and send the result to a Bluetooth speaker, or in stereo to two Sp1 units. Line input and output allow wired connections, and the battery lasts about six hours. It also has a three-band EQ, filter, loop playback, crossfader and headphone monitoring. Placing a Cp1 on each side creates a small DJ deck.

Funayama said the idea came after hearing that current CDJ players no longer take CDs. At the event, DJ and model Yuka Mizuhara said the filter sounded realistic enough for a DJ booth, while producer tofubeats praised its ability to combine and level two Bluetooth sources.

Funayama described the lineup of player, mixer and speaker linked over Bluetooth as km5's take on the hi-fi component system. Both products come in white and black.
