Generali has completed the takeover of the portfolio of all active insurance contracts held by customers of Genertel, which operated in Poland under the Redclick brand. The process was finalised yesterday and closes a short chapter for the digital insurer on the Polish market.

What changes for customers

Policyholders do not need to do anything. The transfer of policies happened automatically, and customers keep their existing terms of cover without completing any formalities.

The law also gives them an exit option. Anyone who prefers to choose their own path can terminate the contract moved from Genertel to Generali within three months of the portfolio transfer.

A brief presence in Poland

News that Genertel was pulling out of Poland first surfaced less than a month ago. Both Generali and Genertel belong to the Italian Generali group, but Generali has a long tradition and an established position in Poland.

Genertel started operating in the country in October 2024, relying on the EU freedom to provide services. Its model was to sell policies only through a website and a mobile app, without a traditional agent network. In two years, it did not manage to exceed a 0.1% share of the motor third-party liability (OC) insurance market in any quarter.

The slowdown was already visible in its second-quarter 2026 results. Data from the Insurance Guarantee Fund showed that the insurer's premiums written fell by 70% compared with the same period a year earlier.

The move shows how hard it is for a purely digital newcomer to build scale in a crowded motor insurance market without distribution partners. For customers, continuity of cover is preserved under the more established Generali brand.
