EIB and Deutsche Bank Aim to Mobilise €560M for European Space
The European Investment Bank and Deutsche Bank have agreed a partnership to mobilise €560 million for Europe's space industry, under the Space TechEU programme.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Deutsche Bank have signed a strategic partnership to mobilise €560 million in investment for Europe's space sector. The deal is meant to help companies scale up, bring new technologies to market and strengthen the continent's independent space capabilities.
The funding will target firms across the whole supply chain: component manufacturers, rocket developers, providers of satellite applications and companies offering services in orbit. The initiative is part of Space TechEU, a programme the EIB launched in late 2025 that aims to mobilise about €1.4 billion together with commercial banking partners.
Why space firms need new financing
Space companies often face long development cycles, complex technology and uncertain returns, which makes it hard to obtain traditional bank loans. Under the new arrangement, Deutsche Bank is to offer long-term funding and flexible structures that make it easier to back commercially stable businesses.
Representatives of the institutions stress that Europe has outstanding engineering talent, but that it needs the right capital behind it. The operation will be pan-European, with roughly half of the money going to Germany and the rest to other EU countries. The European Space Agency (ESA) will also contribute advice and market expertise.
The money can be used in areas such as reusable launch vehicles and spacecraft, and Earth observation supporting navigation, communications, pollution monitoring and forest fire detection.
What comes next
The agreement was announced on the eve of ESA's investment forum in Munich. It marks another step towards a stronger, more autonomous European space ecosystem, with the focus now on how quickly the funds reach companies.
