Indian D2C cat food startup Smylo is in advanced talks to raise around ₹30 crore (about $3.2 million) through a mix of equity and debt, according to sources familiar with the matter. Equity is expected to make up the larger share, although the exact split is not yet clear.

The round is likely to bring a new venture capital firm onto the company's cap table, while existing backer DSG Consumer Partners is also expected to invest further. Smylo is expected to spend the money on new product launches, research and development, and setting up its own manufacturing facility. The company had not commented at the time of writing.

Who is Smylo

Founded in 2024 by former Titan Capital executives Abhishek Agrawal and Kartikeya Gupta, Smylo sells cat food that it describes as preservative-free, high in protein and made from fresh meat. The range covers wet food, dry food and broths for kittens and adult cats. Beyond its own website, it sells on ecommerce marketplaces and quick commerce platforms such as Blinkit and Zepto.

In February, the founders said monthly sales averaged ₹50–55 lakh, with the website and ecommerce channels contributing roughly 80% of revenue and quick commerce the rest. The startup raised smaller rounds earlier and secured an investment during its appearance on Shark Tank India in early 2026, but it has not disclosed total funding.

A busy pet care market

The talks come as investors keep backing Indian pet care companies. In September, pet food startup Lickicious raised ₹19 crore in equity and debt led by Prath Ventures, while marketplace Supertails raised $30 million in a Series C in February to grow its clinic network and quick commerce infrastructure.

Interest is driven by rising pet ownership and higher spending on pet nutrition and healthcare. According to IBEF, India's pet care market was worth an estimated $3.6 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $24.8 billion by 2032, a compound annual growth rate of 20%.
