Mistral AI acquires SkipLabs and launches a new Language team
Mistral AI has bought SkipLabs, founded by Julien Verlaguet, and will fold its engineers and scientists into a new team called Language. No price was disclosed.

Mistral AI has announced the acquisition of SkipLabs, a company founded by Julien Verlaguet. The French AI group will bring SkipLabs' engineers and scientists into a newly created team named Language. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
A second acquisition in a month
The move follows the purchase last month of New Material, a studio that specialises in designing products with artificial intelligence built in. Two acquisitions in quick succession reinforce the picture of a company that multiplies announcements and prioritises speed.
The pattern is now familiar: Mistral AI makes frequent announcements, often by surprise, and appears to favour acquiring teams and expertise rather than building every capability from scratch. Where New Material added product-design skills, the SkipLabs deal is aimed at strengthening the company's technical bench through the new Language team.
What it means
The announcement gives few details beyond the creation of the team and the arrival of SkipLabs' staff. The company has not said what the Language team will work on, how many people will join, or how the deal was structured, and it has not given a price.
For the market, the deal is another sign that Mistral AI, widely seen as France's leading AI company, is using acquisitions to grow its capabilities quickly. Further details on the team's mission and on how SkipLabs' technology fits into Mistral's offering will determine how significant the operation turns out to be.
