MacBook Neo 2 Coming: Apple Targets 16 Million Units in 2027

Apple has reportedly told suppliers to prepare for 16 million MacBook Neo units in 2027, roughly double 2026, as a MacBook Neo 2 is planned for early next year.

Apple is preparing for the MacBook Neo to get much bigger. According to supply-chain sources cited by Digitimes, the company has given suppliers a shipment forecast of 16 million MacBook Neo units for 2027, about twice the nearly 8 million units expected in 2026.

The forecast lines up with earlier reporting from Mark Gurman, who says a MacBook Neo 2 is planned for early 2027.

A strong first year

The original MacBook Neo arrived in March 2026 and quickly became a hit. Driven primarily by the Neo, Apple recorded its best-ever sales week among first-time Mac buyers.

That early momentum appears to be shaping Apple's expectations for the successor. The company is evidently confident that demand will keep growing rather than fade after the launch period.

Why the jump is so large

Part of the increase comes simply from timing. Because the first Neo went on sale in March 2026, the 2027 figure will include January and February sales that last year's total did not. Those two months are traditionally slower for consumer electronics, however, so they explain only a small share of the doubling.

The rest suggests Apple expects the lower-priced MacBook to attract a far larger audience, including many people buying their first Mac.

For buyers, a bigger production run could mean better availability and a stronger Neo lineup as the second generation arrives. For rivals in the laptop market, a doubling of volume from Apple's entry-level notebook raises the competitive stakes.

Apple has not confirmed the MacBook Neo 2 or the shipment figures. The forecast and the early-2027 timing both come from reports and supply-chain sources.
