Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 get Live Rewind, Siri Recap
Apple's two most controversial Audio Intelligence features, Live Rewind and Siri Recap, arrive in the first watchOS 27.3 developer beta for Series 12 and Ultra 4.

Apple has started rolling out Live Rewind and Siri Recap, the two microphone-based features it held back when it launched the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 in September. Both appear in the first watchOS 27.3 developer beta. Sound Recognition and Music Recognition with Shazam, the other two Audio Intelligence tools, were available from day one.
What the features do
Live Rewind shows the last 15 seconds of speech as a text snippet when you double-press the Digital Crown. Think of a waiter listing the specials or directions you missed. You can ask Siri about the snippet or save it to the Siri app; otherwise it disappears roughly 30 seconds after the display dims. Each use plays an audible chime, even in silent mode or with headphones connected, plus a full-screen animation and a microphone indicator, so people nearby know it was triggered.
Siri Recap goes further and ambiently takes notes on conversations during the day. It produces a title, a short summary and key points in the Recaps tab of the Siri app. It is not a transcript and does not attribute statements to speakers. Apple says it is designed to leave out sensitive data such as financial details and government-issued identifiers. Recaps are deleted after seven days unless saved, and can be exported to Notes or Journal. Users can schedule recaps by time and location, for example only at work or never at night, and toggle them from Control Center.
Privacy and availability
Apple says it never creates audio recordings. Raw audio goes to a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave on the S11 chip and the paired iPhone, which the operating system, apps, the user and Apple cannot access. Live Rewind is processed on-device, while Siri Recap sends a condensed transcript to Private Cloud Compute for summarization.
Both features are opt-in. They need a Series 12 or Ultra 4 paired with an iPhone 16 or newer, excluding the iPhone 16e, with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. They work only in English for now, are off-limits to users under 13, and will not initially launch in the EU because Siri AI is not available there yet. A public beta is expected next, ahead of a wider release.
