itch.io deletes terabytes of AI slop and adds AI search filter
Indie platform itch.io has removed several terabytes of AI-generated content and now lets users filter AI projects out of search results.

The indie games platform itch.io has deleted several terabytes of AI-generated content from its servers. At the same time, the marketplace has introduced a way to hide AI projects when searching, giving users more control over what they see.
Cleanup and new filter
The purge targets what is commonly called "AI slop": mass-produced, low-effort material created with generative AI tools. According to the information available, the amount of data removed runs to several terabytes, which points to how much of this content had piled up on the platform.
Alongside the deletions, AI projects can now be filtered out of search. Anyone who prefers to browse only human-made games, assets and tools can exclude AI-tagged projects from their results instead of scrolling past them.
Why it matters
itch.io is one of the best-known distribution channels for small studios and solo developers, and its open model has made it easy for almost anyone to publish. That openness also makes it attractive for automated uploads. Removing bulk AI content and adding a filter addresses two sides of the same problem: cleaning up what is already there and letting users decide what they want to see.
Further details, such as the exact criteria used for the deletions or how projects are classified as AI-generated, were not part of the information available at the time of writing.
