Apple Watch Audio Intelligence: First Look at Live Rewind, Siri Recap
The watchOS 27.3 developer beta adds Live Rewind and Siri Recap to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. Early use shows an opt-in, factual approach.

Apple has begun rolling out two new Audio Intelligence features to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 through the watchOS 27.3 developer beta: Live Rewind and Siri Recap. Live Rewind shows a transcript of the last 15 seconds of audio, while Siri Recap produces high-level summaries of conversations. Two other Audio Intelligence features have been available for several weeks.
Opt-in only, with granular controls
Neither feature is active by default. Audio Intelligence requires the latest Apple Watch hardware, a compatible iOS version (the iOS 27.3 developer beta) and a deliberate choice by the wearer. Double-pressing the crown does nothing until Live Rewind is enabled in the Watch app on the iPhone, which also requires an initial microphone calibration. Siri Recap is switched on the same way.
Siri Recap offers detailed scheduling. A user could, for example, limit it to the office on weekdays between 1PM and 4PM, when meetings typically take place. Apple documents its privacy approach publicly and explains it during onboarding. Still, the feature is hard to signal to bystanders, so telling people you regularly talk to in person is a sensible courtesy.
Early impressions
In a quiet home office, Live Rewind worked as described, though learning the timing of the double press takes a moment. An audible chime signals that the feature is in use, and a bystander noticed it but not the on-screen animation. Transcription captured a first test accurately, but later attempts misheard a word or two. Noisier settings remain untested.
The first Siri Recap, from an editorial planning meeting, identified the different topics well and stripped out some sensitive details. That made the notes confusing to outsiders and, ironically, less useful for work. A brief chat between two people was not judged worth summarizing.
Compared with Amazon's Bee
Against the Amazon Bee Frontier, the differences are clear. Bee has a more AI-forward presence, offering insights on a conversation's emotional tone and takeaways that can feel judgmental, plus Amazon-linked buying suggestions. Live Rewind is a plain transcript, Apple describes Siri Recap as factual notes to jog memory, and there is no commerce angle.
As this is a developer beta, features may change before a public release. Longer testing will show how Siri Recap handles varied situations and how well it protects bystander privacy.
