iPhone Duo Display Cracks Reported Hours After Apple Launch
Hours after Apple's first foldable went on sale, users report cracked inner displays. A JerryRigEverything durability test also found weaknesses in the iPhone Duo.

Only hours after the iPhone Duo went on sale on 23 October 2026, users began reporting broken displays on Apple's first foldable. Posts on Reddit, social media and tech forums describe cracks in the inner screen, and some owners have shared photos as evidence.
MacRumors has already floated the term "Crackgate", a nod to the Antennagate controversy that hit the iPhone 4 in 2010. According to those reports, most cases involve the hinge, which then leads to cracks in the display. One Australian user says his screen broke after six hours of use, with the phone opened and closed fewer than 20 times. He also reportedly heard a distinct cracking sound beforehand.
Bend test and dust problems
The YouTube channel JerryRigEverything also found weak spots. The iPhone Duo failed host Zach Nelson's usual bend test, and the inner display broke. Despite its IP68 rating, the device also seems to cope poorly with dust and sand: particles collect in the folding mechanism and make it harder to close the phone properly.
Nelson rates the iPhone Duo somewhat worse than Samsung's foldables. The Samsung Z Fold 8 proved considerably more robust in the bend test. Still, his tests are rougher than normal daily use.
How widespread is the problem?
It is impossible to judge from a distance how common the failures are. Some of the damage shown online may also have been caused by the users themselves. Folding tests carried out before the launch reportedly turned up no such problems.
For buyers considering Apple's first foldable, the reports are a reason for caution, though not yet proof of a systemic defect. Whether Apple responds will depend on how many further cases emerge in the coming days.
