Hypersonica Raises €100 Million Series B for Hypersonic Strike

British-German defence company Hypersonica has closed a €100 million Series B, co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst, to build sovereign hypersonic deep-strike systems.

Hypersonica, a British-German defence company, has secured €100 million in Series B funding to develop sovereign hypersonic deep-strike systems for Europe and its allies.

The round was co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst. Existing investors, including Plural and 201 Ventures, continued to participate in the financing.

Sovereign capability in focus

Hypersonica positions itself as a builder of deep-strike capability that is developed within Europe and allied countries rather than sourced from outside. Hypersonic systems, which travel at speeds above Mach 5, have become a priority area for defence planners, and the company's pitch centres on giving European governments a domestic option.

The announcement includes a statement that Hypersonica is "redefining how advanced defence capability gets built." The company did not provide further details in the material available, such as technical specifications, customers, test schedules or the valuation attached to the round.

Why it matters

The size of the round, and the involvement of two prominent venture firms, underline how strongly private capital is moving into defence technology in Europe. Investors that once concentrated on software and consumer products are increasingly backing hardware-heavy companies tied to national security and industrial sovereignty.

For Europe, the deal also reflects a broader push to reduce reliance on non-European suppliers for advanced weapons and to speed up development cycles that have traditionally been slow and dominated by large primes.

What Hypersonica does with the fresh capital, and how quickly it can move from development to fielded systems, will be the key test of whether startups can compete in one of the most technically demanding corners of the defence sector.
