Creandum closes €668 million Fund VIII, its largest to date

Stockholm-based Creandum has closed its eighth fund at €668 million ($750 million) to back early-stage startups from pre-Seed to Series A, with a focus on AI.

Swedish venture capital firm Creandum has closed Creandum VIII, a €668 million ($750 million) fund that is the largest in the firm's history. The Stockholm-based investor will use it to back early-stage technology companies, from pre-Seed through Series A.

According to the firm, the fund is expected to support roughly 30 investments over the next two years. That points to a fairly concentrated approach, with sizeable commitments to a limited number of founders rather than a broad spread of small bets.

Focus on AI-driven opportunities

Creandum says it has a particular interest in opportunities emerging from the rapid development of artificial intelligence. The firm is positioning the new capital to back founders building new products and companies as AI changes how software and services are made and sold.

The focus on the earliest financing stages is notable at a time when much of the largest capital in venture is flowing to later-stage and AI-heavy rounds. A dedicated pool of money for pre-Seed to Series A gives European founders another well-funded source of backing at the point where companies are typically hardest to finance.

Why it matters

For European startups, a fund of this size from a Nordic investor adds meaningful capacity at the stage where many companies are formed. For Creandum, it marks a step up in scale from its earlier vehicles and signals confidence from its backers in the early-stage model.

The firm has not been described here as changing its geographic or stage focus, so founders can expect it to keep targeting technology startups at the beginning of their journey. With around 30 deals planned over two years, the investment pace will give an early indication of how quickly the capital is deployed and which AI-related areas draw the most interest.
