FluoRok raises €26.64 million to make fluorochemicals without HF
Oxford-based FluoRok has secured a €26.64 million ($30 million) Series A to scale a patented process that makes fluorochemicals without hazardous hydrogen fluoride.
Oxford-based chemical manufacturing startup FluoRok has closed a €26.64 million ($30 million) Series A round to scale its patented process for producing fluorochemicals without hydrogen fluoride (HF), one of the most hazardous substances in industrial chemistry.
The round was led by Orano Ventures Fund/Supernova Invest, with participation from investor Bidra Innovation Ventures. Existing backers Oxford Science Enterprises and BGF also take part in the financing.
Why it matters
Fluorochemicals are used across many industries, and their production has traditionally relied on HF, a highly toxic and corrosive material that demands strict handling and safety controls. FluoRok's approach removes HF from the manufacturing route, which the company positions as a safer way to make these compounds.
By avoiding HF, the process could reduce the risks tied to storing, transporting and handling the chemical, a significant factor for plant operators and regulators alike.
What comes next
The new capital is intended to help FluoRok scale up production of fluorochemicals using its patented technology. Further details on production targets, customers and timelines were not part of the announcement material available.
