Dropbox Adds AI Agent That Acts on Your Files After Approval

Dropbox now lets AI summarize folders, compare documents and edit files directly in storage, and it is launching DBX Agent Cloud and buying Tigris Data.

Dropbox has announced an AI experience that carries out tasks directly on files stored in its service, from summarizing folders to comparing document versions, editing images and PDFs and transcribing audio. The company also introduced a new infrastructure product, DBX Agent Cloud, and said it plans to acquire cloud storage firm Tigris Data.

According to the company's official statement, the AI experience has already reached more than 70,000 teams. Users describe the job they want done, the platform identifies the relevant files and proposes a plan, and supported actions start only after the user approves. A record of changes is kept.

What the assistant can do

The new capabilities include searching for information inside folders, summarizing groups of files, comparing document versions and drafting new text based on a project's content. The tool can also edit images and PDFs, transcribe recordings and handle some video tasks. It can organize folders, move files and rename them as well.

Users can pick different AI models while they work, and can use their content with supported tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Muse without re-uploading files each time.

Control and enterprise infrastructure

Dropbox says the platform shows its execution plan before making changes, respects the access permissions set on files and folders, logs every action and lets users review edits and undo supported operations.

DBX Agent Cloud targets companies and developers building AI apps and agents. It starts with Amazon S3-compatible storage, with plans to add content processing and file management later.

Initial availability is limited to eligible teams in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Dropbox plans to expand the rollout during 2027.
