Viettel unveils VGC v1.0 chip for secure government systems
Vietnam's Viettel has unveiled the VGC v1.0 chip for secure government systems, as the national digital signature system passes 2 million certificates.

Vietnamese telecoms and technology group Viettel has unveiled VGC v1.0, a chip designed for secure government systems.
The launch comes as Vietnam's national digital signature system has more than 2 million certificates in circulation. That figure gives a sense of how widely digital identity and electronic signing tools are now used in the country, and why the security of the hardware behind them matters.
Why it matters
Government services depend on trusted credentials and protected data. A dedicated chip aimed at secure government use points to an effort to strengthen the hardware layer of that infrastructure, rather than relying on software protections alone.
Further technical specifications, deployment plans and pricing for VGC v1.0 were not included in the information available at the time of writing, so it remains unclear how and when the chip will be rolled out across public-sector systems.
