Venomics AI raises $2.7 million pre-seed round from IISc spinout
IISc spinout Venomics AI has raised $2.7 million in its first institutional round, co-led by Speciale Invest and South Park Commons, to expand its venom-based AI platform.
Venomics AI, a biotechnology startup spun out of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), has raised $2.7 million in its first institutional funding round. The pre-seed round was co-led by Speciale Invest and South Park Commons, with Operators Studio also participating.
According to the company's press release, the money will go toward expanding operations, growing its molecular dataset and strengthening its AI and laboratory screening capabilities.
What the company does
Venomics AI was co-founded in May 2026 by Sunagar and Vinay Prabhu. It combines venom biology, molecular sequencing, artificial intelligence and experimental screening in a single approach. The source material available does not detail specific products or drug candidates, so the company's pipeline remains unclear for now.
Why it matters
The round shows continued investor interest in Indian deep-tech and life-science startups that originate in academic research. Pairing a growing molecular dataset with AI models and wet-lab validation is a common route in computational biology, and the funding gives the young company resources to build both sides of that loop.
For the Indian startup ecosystem, the backing of two well-known early-stage investors for a company founded only months ago signals confidence in the team and its IISc roots. The next milestones will depend on how quickly Venomics AI can expand its dataset and screening work with the new capital.
