altM raises $10.3 million Series A led by Rainmatter, Mela
Bengaluru specialty chemicals startup altM has secured $10.3 million in Series A funding led by Rainmatter by Zerodha and Mela Ventures to scale up production.
Bengaluru-based specialty chemicals startup altM has raised $10.3 million in a Series A round led by two new investors, Rainmatter by Zerodha and Mela Ventures.
Existing backers Omnivore, Theia Ventures, Aureolis Ventures and Spectrum Impact also took part in the round, along with VC Grid and strategic angel investors.
What the money is for
The company plans to use the fresh capital to expand its manufacturing capabilities, research and development, and customer qualification programmes. It will also grow its engineering and commercial teams.
The funding comes as altM moves from pilot-scale production to commercial manufacturing, a step that typically demands both process engineering depth and approval from industrial buyers before volumes can ramp up.
Why it matters
AltM was founded in 2022. A Series A of this size, led by new investors while existing ones return, signals continued appetite for chemicals and materials startups in India that aim to build domestic manufacturing capacity rather than rely only on imports.
For customers, the customer qualification programmes are the key milestone to watch, since specialty chemicals generally need to pass testing before being adopted in production lines. The company has not shared further details on products, customers or timelines in the announcement.
