Chocolate Finance is entering the Hong Kong market through a local subsidiary licensed by the city's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), extending a business that started in Singapore.

The company said its Singapore platform manages more than HK$10 billion (US$1.27 billion) in assets and serves over 130,000 users. Those figures are the track record it is bringing to Hong Kong, where it will operate under a regulated local entity rather than offering services from abroad.

Why the licence matters

In Hong Kong, firms that deal in securities or provide investment advice generally need SFC authorisation. Setting up a licensed local unit gives Chocolate Finance a formal footing to serve residents under the regulator's oversight. For users, a licensed entity means the service falls under local rules, which is often a deciding factor when choosing where to place savings and investments.

The move also shows how fintech platforms built in Singapore are looking at Hong Kong as a next step. Both cities are major regional financial hubs, and a platform that has reached six-figure user numbers in one market has a reasonable case for testing another.

What to watch

The source material does not detail the products, fees or launch timetable for Hong Kong, so it remains to be seen which offerings will be available to local customers first and how closely they mirror the Singapore lineup. How quickly the Hong Kong unit can build a user base, and whether it can approach the scale it has reached in Singapore, will be the main measure of whether the expansion pays off.

For now, the announcement confirms the licensed structure and the scale of the existing business, which together form the foundation of Chocolate Finance's Hong Kong push.
