The launch is the latest step in TikTok's effort to move e-commerce outside its core social platform and compete more directly with online retail players such as Amazon and Temu.
What the app offers
The app was spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra. It serves personalized product recommendations based on each user's interests, and shoppers can discover items through live streams and short videos. It also lists deals available only on this channel, free-shipping campaigns and perks for first orders.
Users can complete purchases inside the app, track their orders and reach customer support around the clock. A secure payment option is also among the highlighted features.
Early traction
The app has passed 50,000 downloads on Google Play and ranks 71st in the shopping category of the Singapore App Store. The Singapore listing names TikTok Pte. Ltd. as the provider, a legal entity separate from TikTok USDS Joint Venture in the United States.
It remains unclear whether TikTok will bring the app to other markets, the US in particular. The company did not respond to requests for comment. By turning TikTok Shop into its own app, TikTok makes shopping a destination in its own right rather than a section of the main feed.
