Soter Insure has added SC Ventures, the venture arm of Standard Chartered, and Japan's SBI Group as investors in its Series B round. The company says the new backing will be used to expand digital asset insurance capacity and strengthen coverage for institutional clients around the world.

Why the backers matter

Insurance is one of the gaps institutions often cite when weighing exposure to digital assets. Custody, trading and on-chain activity all carry risks that traditional insurers have been slow to underwrite at scale. Adding capacity is therefore central to Soter Insure's pitch.

The participation of SC Ventures and SBI Group brings two financial-sector names into the round. Both are linked to large, established financial networks, which signals interest from traditional finance in the infrastructure surrounding crypto rather than in tokens alone.

What is not yet known

The announcement, as summarized, does not detail the size of the round, the valuation or the full list of investors. Nor does it spell out which specific insurance products or regions will see capacity grow first.

For institutions, the practical test will be whether the extra capacity translates into higher coverage limits and broader policy terms for custodians, exchanges and funds. Further details on how the Series B funds will be deployed are expected to determine how quickly that happens.
