Samsung has started a social media advertising campaign for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 that openly makes fun of the display defect reported on some iPhone Duo units. The posts show images with streaks resembling the damage seen on Apple's new foldable.

The captions read "Folding. We know a thing or eight," a wordplay on the Fold 8 name, and encourage users to switch to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. One X user also shared a photo of a car carrying a digital Samsung banner, suggesting the message has spread beyond social feeds.

What happened with the iPhone Duo

In late October 2026, early buyers of the iPhone Duo in China and Australia said the phone's inner screen cracked within the first few hours of use. Photos show the crack in the same place each time: along the hinge.

Apple has acknowledged the problem. The company said only a "small number" of users were affected and advised them to contact support to have the device replaced.

Why it matters

Durability is the main question hanging over foldable phones, and the hinge area is where it is tested hardest. A defect that shows up within hours on a brand-new device from Apple, a newcomer to this category, hands rivals an easy opening, and Samsung, the established foldable leader, is using it.

The campaign also shows how quickly competitors now turn a rival's launch problems into marketing. Whether the cracks prove to be an isolated batch or a wider design issue will likely shape how buyers view the iPhone Duo in its first weeks. Apple has not provided figures beyond calling the number of affected users small.
