Replit Opens Japan Office as SMFL Launches Enterprise Vibe Coding
Replit is opening a base in Japan to push its enterprise AI development service in Asia, while Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing unveils SaaS built on the platform.

US-based Replit is opening an office in Japan to strengthen its enterprise AI development business. The company set up a London base for the European market in September and plans to use Japan as a stepping stone for expansion across Asia.
Alongside the announcement, Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) said it will offer personalized SaaS for businesses using a method it calls "enterprise vibe coding", built on Replit. Replit is a cloud development environment where users instruct AI in natural language to build applications, so staff who know the business can take part directly in work once handled by engineers.
Faster custom development
SMFL is targeting the detailed requirements of individual companies, which standard SaaS features struggle to cover. It combines its long-standing asset management expertise with Replit's AI development. In one case, a customization that would normally take six people about half a year was completed by one person in a week. SMFL also used the approach to rebuild a fixed-asset accounting system with more than 200 screens, and expects development and testing after requirements definition to take one-third of the usual time.
Security and quality controls
SMFL built a data integration platform called ADP that links apps made with Replit to its asset management cloud service assetforce. It manages data access permissions so that only information and operations approved by the company can be used. Code generated by AI is checked by an independent quality-control agent and then reviewed by a human engineer.
SMFL plans to train "forward deployed engineers" who work on customer sites, build prototypes and refine them through repeated hands-on feedback. It is also preparing to offer Replit licenses and customer referrals, and will run corporate training. A book titled "The Impact of Enterprise Vibe Coding" goes on sale on November 27.
SMFL treats custom development support as one of its new business pillars and aims to grow related sales tenfold over the next five years. Replit co-founder and CEO Amjad Masad said security and governance are key to enterprise AI adoption, and described a setup that deploys Replit inside a company's own cloud environment. He gave no target for the number of Japanese customers, saying the AI market's growth is hard to predict.
