Apple has begun testing Audio Intelligence for the Apple Watch in the developer beta of iOS 27.3. The feature set lets the watch capture the last words a conversation partner said and produce a short summary of the exchange. Users have to switch the options on themselves.

Three features, one headline tool

Apple is testing three AI functions: Sound Recognition, Live Rewind and Siri Recap. The main one is Live Rewind, which reminds you of words spoken a moment earlier. To use it, you double-press the Digital Crown. The watch shows the content of roughly the last 15 seconds of conversation. A clip can be saved in the Siri app; otherwise it disappears about 30 seconds after the screen dims.

Siri Recap goes a step further and writes a brief note that picks out the main topics, dates and agreements from a conversation.

Sound Recognition identifies sounds such as a baby crying, a doorbell or an alarm. The watch can also recognize music, and Shazam launches straight away to find the song.

Privacy and requirements

When Live Rewind is active, people nearby are warned by an audio signal and an animation. According to Apple, the original audio data is deleted after processing. Transcribing and summarizing speech requires an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.

Apple announced Audio Intelligence on 9 September alongside its new watches. The company then promised to release Live Rewind and Siri Recap in beta before the end of the year, starting with English. The appearance in the iOS 27.3 developer beta is the first step toward that plan.

For users, the tools could be useful for catching a missed detail in a conversation or noting down agreements, while the opt-in setup and the warning signal address obvious privacy concerns.
