Anthropic unveils FlashProve to verify AI model identity
Anthropic's FlashProve aims to make the identity of AI models cryptographically verifiable, without requiring the company to disclose model weights.

Anthropic has introduced FlashProve, a system meant to give AI models something they have lacked so far: a verifiable proof of identity. According to the company, the approach makes a model's identity cryptographically checkable without revealing its weights.
The problem: models carry no ID
AI models currently have no identity document. Anyone who sends a request to a model has little means of confirming independently which model actually produced the answer. FlashProve is designed to close that gap with cryptographic methods rather than with a provider's assurance alone.
The key point is that the proof works without exposing the model weights. Weights are among the most closely guarded assets of any AI developer, so a verification scheme that requires publishing them would be unworkable for most providers.
Why it matters
A way to prove which model is responding could matter wherever results need to be traceable, for example when companies rely on AI services from external providers. Further details on how FlashProve works, how it will be rolled out and who can use it were not part of the information available at the time of writing.
