Poland Plans Social Media Ban for Children Under 15 From 2027
Poland will put a draft law banning social media for children under 15 to public consultation this month, with rules due to apply from September 2027.

Poland's government is preparing a ban on social media for children under 15. Deputy Education Minister Katarzyna Lubnauer announced that the draft law will go to public consultation before the end of November. The rules are meant to take effect at the start of the new school year in September 2027.
The bill was drafted jointly by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Digital Affairs. Once it enters into force, children under 15 will not be able to open accounts on social platforms. The age limit was set at 15 because it coincides with the move to secondary school.
Platforms carry the burden of verification
Effective age verification will be the responsibility of the services themselves. The draft also includes a transition period: platforms will have 12 months to verify existing accounts, unless an account was created more than 10 years earlier.
If age verification fails, accounts will not be deleted. Instead, access will be blocked until the user reaches the required age.
Three verification options
There will be three tools to choose from: the mObywatel app, the European Digital Identity Wallet, or solutions offered by the platforms themselves. Platform solutions must comply with EU rules and be secure.
A key requirement is that only the information about age is passed on, with no other data, including the exact date of birth.
The consultation phase will show how the proposal is received by the public, parents and the industry before the bill moves further through the legislative process.
