Google Find Hub Adds Left-Behind Alerts for Android Trackers

Google's Find Hub now warns Android users when they walk away from a tracker, and it works with third-party tags such as Moto Tag and Chipolo, not only Google's own.

Google's Find Hub app for Android now includes a "Notify when left behind" feature. It alerts your phone when you walk away from a tracker, or from the item the tracker is attached to, so you can notice a forgotten wallet or bag before it is too far away.

How to turn it on

Open Find Hub, select a tag or another device that supports the feature, and tap the settings button. The new "Notify when left behind" toggle is there; switch it on. The setting applies per tracker, so you can protect a wallet tag without getting alerts about spare keys.

Once enabled, the phone sends a notification when you start moving away without the tracker. The exception is when the tracker is in a saved or familiar location, which avoids a false alarm every time a tag stays on its hook at home.

If the option is missing, update Find Hub. The feature is currently available in version 3.1.787-06.

Not limited to Google hardware

The most notable part is that the alerts are not restricted to Google's own trackers. The feature has also appeared on Moto Tag and Chipolo trackers paired with Android phones. Android trackers come from many manufacturers, which makes consistent support harder to deliver than on a single-vendor platform.

For now, the feature is live in the US and certain parts of Europe.

Google is arriving late. Apple has offered tracker separation alerts through Find My for years, and Samsung added a comparable feature to SmartThings a few years ago.

The practical advice is to enable it only for items you cannot afford to lose, such as your wallet, keys and bag. Keeping the list short means the alerts stay meaningful instead of turning into noise you start to ignore.
