Perplexity launches Teammates, always-on AI agents for work
Perplexity has unveiled Teammates, always-on AI agents that handle several jobs at once. They require the $200-a-month Max plan.

Perplexity has launched "Teammates," a set of always-on AI agents for work, putting the startup in direct competition with OpenAI and Anthropic. Each Teammate can take on multiple roles inside a workspace and run around the clock.
Teammates pull in existing projects, skills and memory from the Perplexity tools a user already works with. They also integrate with Perplexity Computer, the company's AI system that can deploy agents on a user's device to complete tasks. According to Perplexity, Teammates "build on top" of Computer by adding the ability to collaborate and carry out "ongoing, large-scale work."
How they work
Users can assign different jobs to each Teammate, and those jobs can be performed simultaneously. Progress can be followed through individual threads in the Perplexity app, and users can also interact with Teammates in Slack.
The concept resembles OpenAI's Dots and Claude Duet, which also run continuously and handle a range of tasks. Perplexity's version is considerably pricier, though: it requires a subscription to the Max plan, which costs $200 per month.
Why it matters
The launch shows the AI race moving from chat assistants toward persistent agents that behave like colleagues, working in the background on long-running tasks. Perplexity is betting that workers will want several of them at once.
CEO Aravind Srinivas laid out the ambition on X: "Over time, we envision every org having hundreds of teammates working for each person." For now, the high entry price limits access to heavy users and organizations willing to pay for the top tier.
