Nothing Teases a Screenless AI Gadget, Says Carl Pei
Nothing CEO Carl Pei has teased an upcoming AI device built from the ground up for context. He says it has no screen and could not have been an app.

Nothing is preparing a new AI gadget. CEO Carl Pei announced the launch on X, saying the device has no screen and could not have been an app. The company has not yet shown the product in full.
Pei tied the teaser to a short historical essay. His argument is that every technological revolution began with specialized tools. He pointed to office computer terminals of the 1970s, which were used only for work long before video games, to car phones of the 1980s, which were the domain of businesspeople, and to 1990s pagers, which doctors and on-call staff wore on their belts.
The context gap
According to Pei, half of working with artificial intelligence comes down to typing context into a text box. In his view, that is the gap in AI today: the intelligence is already there, but the context is missing. He describes a familiar situation, a good idea dropped over coffee that you reach for your phone to note down, only for the moment to be gone before you look up. Or you dismiss it, and by evening nothing is left of the thought.
Pei argues that closing this gap would make everything AI can already do far more useful. Context, he says, does not live in a chat window but in the tools people use and carry with them every day.
What we know about the device
Teasers so far are sparse. Pei says the product was built from scratch with AI in mind, and the first promotional graphic is even more cryptic. The coffee-chat example suggests it is not a home speaker but something worn all the time. Possible forms include a smart pin, a pendant or a bracelet that stays aware of its surroundings, though Nothing has not confirmed any of these.
The wait for answers should be short, as Pei described the launch as imminent. Nothing has not yet given a date, a price or technical specifications.
