NERV Disaster Prevention Launches 24/7 Disaster Live on YouTube
Gehirn has launched "NERV Disaster Prevention Live" on YouTube, a round-the-clock stream of disaster and weather information for Japan, running alongside its app.

Japanese company Gehirn started a live stream called "Special Agency NERV Disaster Prevention Live" on YouTube on 2 November. The company says it will broadcast 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The stream presents the same Japanese disaster and weather information that the "NERV Disaster Prevention" app and the company's social media accounts already deliver. Gehirn says the aim is to reach people through several channels at once, so that critical information gets through reliably. It adds that the format answers user requests such as seeing nationwide information in one place and being able to watch on a PC.
How the broadcast works
The video is generated automatically from real-time disaster and weather data. In normal conditions it loops through items such as weather and rain-cloud radar. When an earthquake or tsunami bulletin or warning is issued, that information takes priority on screen.
For earthquakes, the stream shows the seismic intensity and the epicentre. For tsunamis, it fixes a colour-coded display along the coastlines of the affected areas. The company says audio notifications are also provided.
An experimental start
Gehirn describes the stream as a research and experimental effort at launch. It plans to keep revisiting the information shown, the screen layout and the broadcast format based on viewer feedback.
For people in Japan, the stream offers a browser-friendly, always-on view of alerts that complements the smartphone app. Because it is built on YouTube, it can be watched on a PC or TV without installing anything. Its final form will depend on how viewers respond during this trial period.
