Indian startup funding falls 47.5% to $678 million in October

Indian startups raised $678 million in October, down 47.5% from the previous month, as no company secured a round of $100 million or more.

Indian startups raised $678 million in October, a 47.5% decline from the previous month. The main reason was the absence of large cheques: no startup closed a round of $100 million or more during the month.

Only two companies crossed the $50 million mark, Tessolve and Even Healthcare. With so few big-ticket deals, the total was pulled down sharply compared with months in which several mega rounds typically lift the headline figure.

Growth and early stage deals

Growth-stage funding got support from rounds raised by Boldfit, DailyObjects, RapidCanvas and Nat Habit. These deals kept the middle of the market active even as the very top went quiet.

Early-stage activity was moderate. Auxo AI, Cent, Mesa and Matiks were among the startups that attracted investor participation at that level, suggesting that smaller bets continued to flow even as late-stage capital was thinner.

Listings and layoffs

October also stood out for the public markets. Jio Platforms made a high-profile stock market debut during the month, and it was followed by further listings of other companies. For founders and investors, a busy listing calendar is closely watched as a sign of how easily private investments can eventually be turned into returns.

There was one positive signal on the jobs front: the month recorded no reported layoffs at startups.

What it means

A single month's total can swing widely in India's startup ecosystem depending on whether a handful of very large deals close, and October shows how strongly the headline number depends on them. Without any round above $100 million, the figure fell by nearly half, while deal activity in the growth and early stages continued across sectors including consumer brands, healthcare and artificial intelligence.

Whether funding rebounds in the coming months will depend largely on whether larger rounds return to the pipeline.
