Google and Samsung Android XR Smart Glasses Open for Preorder Nov. 12
The first Android XR smart glasses from Google and Samsung open for preorder on November 12, with Warby Parker models shipping during the holiday season.

Google and Samsung's first Android XR smart glasses will open for preorder on November 12, with shipments planned for the holiday season. The date was disclosed during an earnings presentation by eyewear brand Warby Parker.
The first models to go on sale are the Warby Parker designs. Google builds the Android XR operating system, while Samsung handles the hardware. Both companies have previously announced eyewear collaborations with Warby Parker and Gentle Monsterm, and frame designs for both brands have already been shown off.
Specs and timing
Specifications have already leaked. The glasses are said to use a Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip and a 12-megapixel camera capable of recording 3K video. Battery life is reported at nine hours.
In the United States, the holiday season effectively begins after Thanksgiving, which falls on the fourth Thursday of November. That puts deliveries in the middle of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping period.
Taking on Meta
The obvious rival is Meta, which leads the smart glasses market. Google and Samsung's model is reportedly lighter than Meta's glasses, which could become a key selling point for a product meant to be worn all day.
The companies have teased the glasses several times this year, and the preorder start marks the first concrete step toward a retail release. Pricing was not part of the information provided.
