Gemini for Android Update Adds File Creation and Editing in Chat
Google is rolling out a new Gemini app version for Android with a refreshed prompt box and the ability to generate, preview and edit files inside a conversation.

Google has released a new version of the Gemini app to all Android users. Alongside a light visual refresh, the update brings a more substantial change: Gemini can now generate, preview and edit files directly in the chat.
A subtle redesign
The visible changes are small. The box where users type their prompts now has softly blurred edges and is partly transparent, with a dotted pattern in the background around it.
Files created inside the conversation
The more important addition is file handling. According to Google's description, users can draft presentations or slide content, review the layout in the chat, edit it directly or ask Gemini to adjust the tone and structure. The result can then be opened in Google Slides or downloaded as a PPTX or PDF file.
Gemini can also build structured tracking sheets, tables and data models from a single prompt. These can be reviewed in Gemini and opened directly in Google Sheets.
For documents, the assistant can quickly draft PDFs, Google Docs, LaTeX, Markdown or TXT files. Users can make changes manually or through prompts, either in the browser or in full-screen mode, and then upload the files to Google Drive.
Not everything works on mobile
There is a limitation. Previewing and editing PDFs works on gemini.google.com and in the mobile app. Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, as well as Markdown and TXT files, are supported only in the web version for now.
For Android users, the update means the app can handle more of the work that previously required switching between tools. Those who want the full set of document features will still need a browser for the time being.
