Fritzbox update list: Fritz shows which routers lose support

Fritz has published a support list showing how long each Fritzbox gets updates. Several devices, including the 6590 Cable and 6490 Cable, are already past their date.

Fritz, the maker of the Fritzbox, has published a product support list on its website that shows the date until which each router and repeater will receive updates at minimum. For several devices, that date has already passed.

Among the cable routers, the Fritzbox 6590 Cable has been outside its update period since 1 October 2024, and the Fritzbox 6490 Cable since 1 January 2026. The WLAN repeater 1750E has not been supported since 1 October 2025.

Expired does not always mean abandoned

An expired period does not automatically mean a device never gets another update. The popular Fritzbox 7490 is the best example: its guaranteed update period ended on 1 October 2025, yet it still received an update to the older FritzOS 7.62 in January 2026, without new features. Whether Fritz is equally generous with less common models is doubtful, so owners should not count on it.

The security risk grows over time

Routers and repeaters keep working after support ends, just as smartphones or PCs do. The problem is security: if vulnerabilities are discovered but no longer patched, the home network becomes potentially vulnerable. Switching to a current model is therefore advisable. The latest operating system version is FritzOS 8.50.

The situation is more critical for devices so old that Fritz no longer lists them at all. These include the Fritzbox 7390, 7362 SL, 7412, 7430, 3490 and 6840 LTE. Some are more than ten years old, and users should assume they have not received security updates for a long time. Replacing them is effectively overdue.

How to find your model

If you are unsure which Fritzbox you have, the model number and type designation are printed on the underside of the device. You can also open the user interface in a browser at fritz.box, where you will see the model and the installed FritzOS version. Compare it with Fritz's list to see whether you need to plan a replacement soon.
